One of the many appealing facets of polo is the team spirit, the
feeling of solidarity. Players bring family and friends to the game.
Everybody greatly enjoys the day out. Picnic baskets spill
over, visitors that happen to come by are welcome to join in.
This adds to the game a feeling of happiness and intimacy. I try to
bring that ingredient into my work in a subtle way. That delicacy comes
to strength when the painting decorates te family room where it adds a
special quality to the home life.
I work by the traditional methodof glazing, which means the paint is applied carefully layer
after layer onto the linen. It's a craft that needs close attention, as each layer has to dry well before a new one can be added.
I find dedication to this level of intensity, as well as a respectful application of acrylic and oils, important for obtaining the final result. The colors evolve after each layer and create a higher level of warmth and radiance. The underlying movement becomes
real, the struggle and fearlessness of rider and horse come alive. I also like to work in pastels. This medium enables me to bring even more speed into the composition.
